Hospice Care

Hospice cares for someone who has a terminal diagnosis. When you or a loved one becomes part of our hospice family, we work with you to relieve stressful symptoms.

Enhancing Your Quality of Life

Hospice doesn’t prolong life or hasten death. We focus on caring for you or your loved one to enhance the quality of life. Since 1990, the Hospice Homes PIH Health have offered physical, emotional, spiritual and social support for residents of Los Angeles and North Orange Counties. Our care includes:

  • Individualized end-of-life care that addresses your unique needs or those your loved one
  • Ethical, high-quality health care
  • Relief of pain and suffering
  • Positive experiences for you and your family, including children

Caring For You In or Close to Home

Đài xổ số miền bắcYou can choose to receive hospice care in a variety of settings, including the Hospice Homes of PIH Health. We offer 24-hour nursing care in serene and comfortable environments. Or you may prefer hospice care in your home, in an assisted living facility, in a nursing home or at a board-and-care home. You receive care from a team of physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, aides and specially trained volunteers, all guided by our hospice medical director.

Services We Provide

A full range of support services benefit you or your loved one, including:

  • Pain and symptom control
  • Consultation with your personal physician
  • Counseling for you and your family as changes occur during illness
  • Spiritual support from our chaplain for you and your family, if desired
  • Social services to help you and your family plan ahead
  • Volunteer assistance for family members needing a break from the day-to-day care
  • Bereavement services—for 13 months—to support your loved ones
  • Durable medical equipment, transportation, supplies and medications related to the terminal illness

Frequently Asked Questions About Hospice

What role does my doctor play?
Your doctor will remain your doctor for as long as you and your doctor agree to keep that arrangement. Our hospice medical director, together with your doctor, will oversee your care.

What happens if I get better?
We’ll take joy in your recovery! You may opt out of hospice care at any time, and, if eligible, you also may return at any time.

Is it true I’m only eligible for hospice care for six months?
Đài xổ số miền bắcNo. We’ll care for you as long as you and your doctor feel you need us and as long as you meet medical guidelines.

Will my insurance cover hospice care? Who pays for hospice care?
Hospice care is covered by most insurance plans, including Medicare and Medi-Cal. We accept private insurance and all health plan payments. Call us and we’ll work directly with your insurance carrier to evaluate your benefits for eligibility. A sliding fee schedule and special plans are available to help those who are uninsured.

Who can receive inpatient hospice services at the Hospice Homes of PIH Health?

  • Whose condition requires round-the-clock skilled nursing care to manage distressing symptoms or pain
  • Whose needs are simply too complex for in-home care

How do I arrange for services at the Hospice Homes of PIH Health?
Talk to your doctor or call our patient intake coordinator. Because each person’s circumstances are unique, we offer evaluation on a case-by-case basis.
